Amy Cunningham

Biography

Amy Cunningham studied at Wimbledon School of Art, London where she gained a BA in Fine Art Painting in 2000 and then went on to study at The Slade School of Fine Art, University College London where she completed an MA in Fine Art Media in 2002. Using her classically trained voice in the context of a fine art practice led her to develop pieces which explore the implications of the futuristic and the nostalgic often utilising classical music, new and obsolete technologies. Amy has exhibited performance, installation and film and video work in various galleries and spaces in Europe including, Norwich Gallery, Pitzhanger Manor Gallery London, Zinger Presents, Netherlands, Slade Research Centre London, Towner Art Gallery Eastbourne, Parlour London, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nîmes, SC Gallery Zagreb, Croatia and Serpentine Gallery, London.

In parallel to her individual solo practice, Cunningham works collaboratively and collectively with artists including with the Oolith Project (Conall Gleeson and Claudia Kappenberg) and with the collective SpRoUt of whom she has been a key member since 2004. With SpRoUt she recently developed a work for film and vocal ensemble, during the project Under Construction: Staging the Future, for which SpRoUt were resident artists at the SC Gallery, Zagreb in September 2008. In October 2008 SpRoUt took part in the ‘Manifesto Marathon’ curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, which took place in the Frank Gehry pavilion at the Serpentine Gallery.
