Katrin Bohn

Biography

Katrin Bohn is an architect and joined the School of Architecture and Design in September 2001 where she teaches and leads an undergraduate architecture studio. Prior to this, she taught architecture at London Metropolitan University.

She studied at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Germany (Diploma in Architecture), the University of East London (MSc in Architecture) and the Ecole d'Architecture de Nantes, France.

Since 1998, Bohn runs a London-based architectural practice and environmental research consultancy with Andre Viljoen (Bohn & Viljoen Architects). Before this, she trained in architectural practices in Germany, Brazil, France and Britain, including work for Jourda & Perraudin (Lyon) and Stefan Schrodt Architekten (Berlin).

As a practising architect, Bohn is involved in architectural and urban design projects mostly located in Britain, of which some won national awards.

Her main research interest lies in sustainable architectural and urban design centred around the concept of Continuous Productive Urban Landscape (CPUL) which she developed within Bohn&Viljoen Architects. This work reached a first breakthrough in early 2005 with the publication of the book CPUL - Designing Urban Agriculture for Sustainable Cities (reprinted in 2005). Bohn's design research has now branched into two main directions, addressing the environmentally quantifiable aspects of the concept on one side and visualising its spatial and occupational qualities on the other.
